Job Summary

Chesterton has a laser focus on our customers. The Process Engineering Co-op supports our customers by helping to drive continuous improvement efforts across our manufacturing operations. The Process Engineering Co-op will report to a Sr. Process Engineer and will be embedded in one or more manufacturing floors to assist with projects designed to reduce material costs/usage, or implement operational efficiencies.

Job Model: On-site

On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts.

Responsibilities

· May perform time studies in the manufacturing areas; evaluates the data collected and recommends procedural and/or process changes.

· Works independently or as part of a project team to facilitate process improvements on behalf of production floors/operations.

· Researches and recommends appropriate tooling and may prepare a business case justification for the proposed tools/equipment

· May help facilitate cross functional teams involved in time/cost reduction initiatives.

· Recommend, plan and execute changes in layout of production facilities and equipment.

· Review and recommend changes to materials, manufacturing processes and tooling in order to maintain and improve the quality of the product lines and reduce cost.

· Apply engineering principles and solve technical/quality problems or issues with raw materials, manufacturing processes and quality of product lines.

· Understand technical issues, and create and deliver technical reports both orally and in written form

· Learn to apply Lean Continuous Improvement techniques, 5S and Six Sigma. Participates in continuous improvement teams.

· Must adhere to the safety requirements for the various mfg. areas including use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

· Assists Process/Quality Engineers during investigations into both internal and external quality issues.

Complexity of Duties

· Provides solutions to a wide range of difficult problems related to manufacturing/production, quality, engineering, design and/or cost.

· Ability to be flexible and work in manufacturing, machine shop and assembly environments on a regular basis.

· Ability to learn process improvement methodologies and execute them in a real-world work environment.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral).

· Strong writing, analytical, and computer skills to ensure effective and accurate testing, data recording and presentation of work product.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Mechanical aptitude.

· Competent abilities in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Education and/or Experience

· High School Diploma or equivalent.

· Must be in the process of obtaining a B.S. degree in either Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or similar field for an accredited college or university

· Previous experience within a manufacturing environment a plus
