The Chemical Plant Operator will assist in the operation and continuous improvement of Aqua Metals’ pilot plant. Process monitoring, sample collection, and material handling are themes for this position. The operator may have to use heavy equipment, such as forklifts, cranes, and hoists to accomplish tasks. It is essential that the person in this position adhere to safety guidelines and ensure that final product meets high-quality standards. Manual labor will be required to load material into the process, take samples, harvest finished products, and clean and package material for shipment. Strict adherence to use of personal protective equipment, safety policies and operational procedures.

Summary of Duties:

• Complete assigned duties as directed by Leadership, and as scheduled.
• Safely and efficiently maintain and operate production and/or facility equipment for pilot plant processing, data collection, sampling, shipping, receiving, etc.
• Collect data accurately and legibly as directed.
• Operate heavy equipment safely and effectively as needed and maintain travel zones (e.g., forklifts, hoists, cranes, pallet jacks, aerial platform, etc.)
• Maintain housekeeping requirements/clean all work areas as assigned including compliance with all signage, SDS requirement, and 5S specifications.
• Ensure compliance with all safety requirements, company policies, and mandated regulations (e.g., OSHA, RCRA, etc.).
• Perform basic mathematical calculations (e.g., addition, subtraction, division, multiplication).
• Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve processes, assess risk, identify root cause, resolve production obstacles, and implement corrective actions.
• Demonstrate behaviors that support inclusion, diversity, equality, teamwork, collaboration, and are conducive to creating a positive work environment.
• Identify and immediately report unsafe operations and/or work conditions to direct supervisor and/or a member of management.
• Given notice, ability to work overtime and any shift to support business needs.

• Demonstrate commitment to the team and organization by actively learning, being punctual, volunteering, and engaging.
• Overtime may be required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Afternoon Shift: 2:00PM-10:30PM

*Initially will train during day shift and then move to stated shifts shown. Shifts subject to change based on business requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required, College degree or college course work is desirable.
• Minimum Two years’ experience in a production and/or manufacturing environment is required.
• Experience with material/chemical handling, storage, and compatibilities, leaching, HPLC operations, tank farm management, and engineering controls (e.g., hoods, scrubber) is desirable.
• Ability to multi-task in a face-paced production environment is required.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds intermittently throughout shift.
• Ability to stand, push, pull, and walk approximately 75% of the shift; climb and/or work at heights as needed, don appropriate PPE and wear a full-face respirator as required.
• OSHA Certification is desirable (e.g., OSHA 10, OSHA 40)
• Lean Six Sigma experience or certification desirable (e.g., Yellow, Green, etc.)
• Reliable transportation to and from work is required.
• Behaviors that support a work culture of trust and commitment to the company’s success as outlined in the organization’s mission statement is required.
• Ability to perform basic computer operations (e.g., time clock entries, data entry, web browsing, proprietary computer software, Microsoft Office, HR website…) is required.
