Job Purpose:
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing and documenting mechanical devices that will drive improvements and efficiencies in the precious metals refining processes. This position will be required to perform work in a production environment and may required to work additional hours beyond the normal business day to meet project milestones and deadlines.
This position has the following responsibilities:
· Design, machines, tooling, components, jigs, fixtures, and equipment.
· Application of laws and regulations related to new design, and retrofit, of machinery and equipment.
· Conduct research and / or testing into the feasibility, design, operation and performance of mechanisms, components, and systems as well as production processes.
· Plan and manage projects; and prepare materials, cost and timing estimates, reports and design specifications for machinery and systems.
· Review designs, calculations, and cost estimates.
· Ensure 2D/3D modeling and plant equipment match/mate for all assigned projects.
· Develop maintenance standards, schedules and programs and provide guidance to industrial maintenance crews.
· Use Management of Change (MOC) to design, fabricate and install new, or modified equipment.
· Supervise and inspect the installation, modification, and commissioning of mechanical systems on site.
· Analyze dynamics and vibrations of mechanical systems and structures.
· Analyze and apply strength of materials knowledge in mechanical systems and structures.
· Utilize heat transfer and thermodynamic principles to design new, and/or modify existing equipment.
· Perform hydraulic calculations on fluid lines for pipe sizing calculations.
· Help investigate / troubleshoot mechanical failures or unexpected maintenance problems.
· Provide support to the engineering and productions teams in projects.
Qualifications for this position are:
· University degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 3-5 years’ related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
· Knowledge of basic electrical wiring / control wiring, and basic assembly of electrical components
· High level of safety awareness
· SOLIDSWORKS Modeling, Model Validation, Detailing Drawings experience
· 3-5 Years’ Experience working in a manufacturing plant, mine, or refinery
· AutoCAD competence for 2D, P&ID drawings
· Management of Change (MOC) experience
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and other relevant engineering software.
· Demonstrated problem solving skills
· Excellent organizational skills in managing documentation of research and development work.
· Strong process management skills to separate and combine tasks for efficient workflow.
· Ability to design and measure work processes for continuous improvement.
· Some travel may be required to visit contractors or other sites for training.
What will put a candidate ahead:
· Professional engineering (P.Eng.) designation.
· Process Safety Management Experience
· Robotic use and design experience.
· PLC controls experience
· P&ID modification experience
· HAZOP experience
