JOB DESCRIPTION:

VETERINARY ASSISTANT

Previous Veterinary Experience Required

Veterinary assistants must have a broad knowledge of animal science, medicine, and husbandry, including a basic knowledge of pharmacology and sufficient mathematical skills to ensure the administration of accurate drug and fluid doses. They must be able to successfully restrain animals, complete clinical laboratory tests, use multiple radiology techniques, monitor animals under anesthesia, assist in surgery, and perform dental cleaning procedures. Veterinary assistants must also deliver compassionate nursing care.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. If less than 18 years of age, must be currently attending high school or other comparable home schooling program. Must be able to work independently, and must be sufficiently self motivated to always work towards continuous quality improvement in the workplace, professionally and personally. Must be able to perform all essential job functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made according to state and federal Americans with Disabilities Act regulations.

Essential Functions

Must have the physical strength and ability to stand for an entire shift when needed, and be able to lift pets and objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance, handle repetitive up-and-down or back-and-forth motions, and work while bending. Assist in lifting patients more than 50 pounds. Occasionally handle animals weighing over 150 pounds with assistance. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

Pay: $17.00 - $25.00 per hour
