Kern Machinery, DM Camp & Sons, and Western Power Products are leading operators in the farming and equipment business. We are family owned and operated, now with the Fourth Generation working in the business. Our farming operation has been in business since 1936, so over 85 years, and the other two companies have been 50+ and 40+ years in business. We are a John Deere dealership (Kern Machinery), a John Deere engine distributorship (Western Power Products), as well as have our own farming operation (DM Camp and Sons). SUMMARY

The Director, Human Resources is a hands-on people leader who is both strategic and tactical. This role will oversee Human Resources for Kern Machinery, DM Camp & Sons, and Western Power Products. They will design and execute (a doer) while being able to think big picture. They will focus on Human Resources practices and initiatives that provide a high level of customer service to employees and help to drive a community-based culture. More specifically this role is responsible for building and overseeing recruitment, benefits, compensation, employee relations, performance management, compliance, training and development, employee engagement, and Human Resources systems.

The Director, Human Resources will report to the CFO. They will report from Bakersfield and/or Shafter, CA. They will assist and advise the leadership team and are able to coach and delegate to the current Human Resources team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Researches, develops and drives Human Resources initiatives that are aligned with business goals and that are valued and trusted by the company
  • Oversees and executes on talent acquisition, hiring, onboarding, compensation, benefits, career development, performance management, employee engagement, employee relations, and compliance
  • Manages the Human Resources team including onboarding, coaching, goal setting, and evaluating performance
  • Builds out the candidate and onboarding experience for new employees
  • Maintains a competitive and equitable compensation strategy, plan, and practices
  • Maintains employee benefits programs and assesses benefit needs and trends
  • Creates a goal setting and performance management approach that develops employees and supports business initiatives
  • Ensures legal compliance to federal, state, and local requirements across all Human Resources programs, processes and policies
  • Takes a consultative approach with company leadership, providing advice and counsel that supports decision and enforces company values
  • Drives a culture of continuous feedback by up-leveling managers on coaching and providing feedback

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience building and operating a Human Resources function
  • In-depth knowledge of labor law and best practices, as well as recent changes and trends in employment practices
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to demonstrate and lead on values, initiatives, and customer service
  • Operational decision making and action planning that involves multi-disciplinary perspectives
  • Ability to see the “big picture” without loss of attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and communicate effectively with company leadership

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources or Organizational Development
  • 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources positions
  • 3+ years of people management experience
