Job Summary

The communications specialist develops and executes strategic internal and external communication, media relations and growth plans that educate, motivate, and engage key audiences as needed. The specialist will collaborate with a manager at OhioHealth Marketing & Communications (GHS is managed by OhioHealth) to create integrated strategic marketing communications plans with measures and ensures involvement and collaboration with business partners. The manager will serve as the liaison with various system, care site and business unit leaders. The manager will work with the specialist to complete projects and strategic goals set forth by the care site and business unit leaders. The specialist will participate as an active member of integrated teams throughout the organization when necessary.

Essential Functions

50% Strategic Planning

  • Plans, organizes, and executes strategic internal and external marketing/ communications plans (and other forms of communications) to support organizational priorities
  • Provides strategic editorial direction for key communication vehicles that align with organizational priorities, initiatives, and business goals.
  • Establishes and builds relationships with system/operational leaders; provides strategic counsel and support to accomplish communication goals.
  • Ensures stewardship of the brand in coordination with the system brand strategy.

35% Execution

  • Project management: coordinates with internal team members, external writers, designers
  • Leads implementation of media relations, reputation work, and community engagement strategies.
  • Develops and executes strategic integrated marketing plans with agency with ROI measures; ensures involvement and collaboration with leadership and in align with system goals and strategies.
  • Project implementation: researches, conducts interviews, analyzes information, and provides writing for publications, press releases, digital communications, presentations, speeches, etc.
  • Ensures budget, timing, and measurement of projects.
  • Ensures quality of all materials produced and superior customer service to clients.

15%: Leadership and relationship management

  • Establishes and maintains strong professional relationships with key clients including sr. vice-presidents, executives, system/operational leaders, and physicians.
  • Leads individuals and/or teams informal leader.

Qualifications

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or related field

Kind and Length of Experience:

3 - 5+ yrs. in communications, executive/physician communications, public relations preferably for a multi-hospital, healthcare system.
